No clue now that you ask it. Besides on a Miata they add hardly none if any power LOL

Re: Exhintake mod
The idea behind this mod is replacing the intake cam in the motor with another exhaust cam. The exhaust cam needs to be modified slightly to accept the cam angle sensor and cut about 1 inch shorter. It is then simply plopped down in the place of the intake cam, the engine is re-timed, and you're done.
It's not supposed to affect the idle quality at all, and if you leave the timing the same then you can still run 87 octane gas.
I'm not sure just yet exactly why the benefits arise, I'll have to do more research into the duration, overlap, lift, etc. of the various cams.
Just make sure you get an exhaust cam identical to the one in your car currently, i.e. don't mix NA and NB.
That's how I understand it so far.

Re: Exhintake mod
I guess you have to cut a tang off the other exhaust cam and drill a new dowell hole for the timing. After that it's basically throw in and re-time. From what I'm reading.

Why spend that kind of time or money for a few HP bump when you can get bolt on HP in higher numbers for, really, the same wampum?!?

Re: Exhintake mod
if you can get a cam for dirt cheap or have one laying around is the only benefit

Re: Exhintake mod
Not many bolt ons can net that type of power for that cheap. Looks like one of the cheapest powers mods I've seen for the 1.8's.

I know nothing of this mod what-so-ever, but above Pinto stated that it'd only give a 6 to 8 HP gain...?

Re: Exhintake mod
6-8 isnt bad for a cam that you can probably get for under 50 bucks. No other mod can get anywhere near that power for that cheap. Guy on miata net has a dyno proven 10 hp. It's one of the more popular mods for auto x cause you can't tell it's even installed.

Re: Exhintake mod
Well, I suppose it wouldn't be bad if you had the engine opened up anyway, I'd probibly do it just because, but I'm not convinced that even a 10 HP gain is worth the cost of the part plus the time if thats the only thing your up too when you decide to tear into the engine. Now if you needed it for a competative edge in the raceing world then I suppose you'd do whatever you could for those little gains, for they do add up...

Re: Exhintake mod
Not really that much of a chore pulling a cam and resetting timing.
